TIJUANA – Once again, it is necessary to save the migrants in the mountainous areas of Baja California, the authorities insist that they will not be fooled by the traffickers because their lives are in danger.
“I understood what the woman told us that the fee was 70,000 pesos (about $4,000), that’s what they were charged so the guide told them to get off at this point and walk through the canyon and in a short time they will stop. it’s on the side in America,” said Alejandro Salinas, Coordinator of Grupo Beta in the state.
According to the authorities, there are six interventions of this type that have been carried out this year in the state.
The last case, a couple who were cheated out of Mexico City and were on the verge of dehydration.
“Fortunately, they found people under a rock that gave them shade and in that rock there was a small pond that they pointed out as their drinking water,” added Salinas.
In addition to these rescues, in recent days a new migrant camp has been formed in Tijuana, between the walls that divide the two countries, estimated to be around 300 people.
“These are people who may be subject to a possible deportation process. What we are seeing is an overgrowth of people who take advantage of migrants to hook them and convince them to cross illegally way,” said David Pérez Tejada, Delegate of the national institution of Migration.
Some people who arrive in the city of Tijuana intending to enter the United States decide to go legally because they prefer not to risk being sentenced for five years, as in the case of Edgar Daniel, who came from Guerrero.
“They have acquaintances, people who in exchange for hiring will also earn money. Yes, that happens there, but as I told you, we are doing this legally.”
