Milan injured Ibrahimovic in 0-0 draw against Juves

MILAN ( Associated Press) – AC Milan lost more ground to league leader Inter Milan and also lost another key player ahead of the derby as it drew 0-0 against Juventus at the San Siro on Sunday.

Key forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic was paralyzed in the 28th minute due to a problem with the Achilles tendon. The 40-year-old Ibrahimovic will likely join several other regular players on the injury list.

In Serie A, Milan slipped to third place on goal difference, below Napoli. Head-to-head is the first tiebreaker at the end of the season. After playing one match more, Milan are four points behind Inter, and meet Nerazuri in their next match after the international break.

Juventus moved into the top four and within a point of a Champions League spot.

The match at the San Siro is a classic fixture in Italian soccer between the two-year-old rivals. This time only 5,000 spectators were allowed into the stadium due to coronavirus restrictions, but there were hundreds of fans outside, singing songs and cheering to welcome the Milan team.

Rossoneri had excellent chances and more playing chances, but both teams struggled to secure clear scoring opportunities.

Lorenzo Insigne sent a clear message to Napoli fans after a 4-1 win over bottom club Salernitana.

The Napoli captain celebrated by pointing to the badge on his jersey and telling the camera clearly in Italian, “I love you, I’ll love you forever.”

It was the 30-year-old Insigne’s first goal since signing a pre-contract deal to join Toronto FC at the end of the season.

Napoli took the lead in the 17th minute when Elif Elmas chested a ball to Juan Jesus, who fired in the bottom right corner. It was initially rejected for handball by Elmas but awarded after a video review.

Federico Bonazoli netted a surprise equalizer for Salernitana, but Napoli restored their lead at the stroke of halftime when Dries Mertens converted a penalty after Elmas was brought down by Frederic Vesely.

Amir Qadri Rahmani extended Napoli’s advantage soon after the break and added a fourth six minutes later as Vesely scored another penalty, this time for handball when Insigne’s shot hit his side and his arm.

Cagliari’s former forward Ricardo Sotil scored for 10-man Fiorentina against his old club in a 1–1 draw.

Both teams also saved penalties.

Cagliari finished 18th, but went within a point of safety. Spezia went eight points above the drop zone after beating 10-man Sampdoria 1–0 in a relegation battle. Torino drew 1-1 with Sasuolo.
