German Shepherd Gunther spent the last morning playing with his tennis ball, rolling on the grass, drooling a little and dozing a lot. He later had a “meeting” with real estate agents selling his Miami mansion, which his curators bought from Madonna.
And of course, at the meeting, Gunther wore his best faux diamond dog collar – his real gold collar returned to his main home in Tuscany. Crazy as it sounds, even by Florida standards, Gunther VI inherited his immense fortune, including the eight-bedroom waterfront house once owned by the Material Girl singer, from his grandfather Gunther IV. At least that’s what the estate’s curators say.
The Tuscan-style villa overlooking Biscayne Bay went on sale Wednesday for $ 31.75 million – a whopping mark-up from a purchase two decades ago from the pop star for $ 7.5 million. The house also boasts a gilded-framed portrait of Gunther IV above the fireplace in the living room.
The dog’s pedigree dates back to decades when Gunther III inherited a multimillion-dollar trust from the late owner, German Countess Carlotta Liebenstein, when she died in 1992. Since then, a group of handlers have helped maintain a strict lifestyle for a string of dogs. There are trips to Milan and the Bahamas, where the last Gunther recently dined in restaurants every night – his curators love to make sure he is on good terms.
Every morning the chef prepares a breakfast with the finest meats, fresh vegetables and rice. Sometimes he loves caviar, but the food is not visible. He travels in a private jet, trains his obedience skills daily with his coach, and sleeps on a luxurious round red velvet bed overlooking the bay.
“He lives in Madonna’s former master bedroom,” said real estate agent Ruthie Assulin, who, along with her husband Ethan, bought a listed 1.2 acre (0.5 hectare) plot in a row of half a dozen waterfront homes next to the public district. park. and on the same street where Sylvester Stallone once lived.
“He is literally asleep, gazing at the most magnificent view on a custom-made Italian bed in the former bedroom of the world’s greatest pop star.”
Carla Riccitelli is one of Gunther’s top trustees, and she sits on the board that manages the nearly $ 500 million trust, deciding when to buy and sell real estate. The group even acquired sports teams, including a men’s soccer team and a women’s swimming team, and yes, Gunther played on the field and attended competitions, she said.
Riccitelli, a 52-year-old animal lover living in Tuscany, met the group that cared for Gunther almost 30 years ago. She instantly connected with the dog and the mission of trust and joined the team. She also helped found Gunther Rescue a few years ago to care for other animals.
She has taken care of the last three gunthers and often takes her current dog with her on routine trips to the market or to the kennel where she cares for the homeless.
“He’s not aggressive at all,” she said, saying that many people write off the breed as wolves. “He gets along very well with other animals.”
“They are very protective of their master, their people. They love having a family, so I usually invite friends with other dogs, ”she said during a telephone interview.
Several times a month, she talks to the board that oversees the trust. The Miami real estate market is so hot that with such limited inventory, they decided this was the right time to sell.
The assulins were used to multi-million dollar ads, but this one seemed incredible.
“When they explained to me that this house was bought by a German shepherd, I thought:“ What are you talking about? I am not following you, ”said Ruthie Assulin.
When she first met Gunther, he covered her face with such casual kisses that he licked her lipstick, she laughed.
As luxurious as Gunther’s life is, he still has dramas and difficulties like everyone else. Back in Italy, Riccitelli has two more dogs that live with Gunther, his favorite playmates.
But she also has six cats and a couple of chickens.
Let’s just say the work is not finished yet, – said Riccitelli.
“He’s still learning to live with six cats.”
