The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Milton Rengifo Hernández was appointed to the post after sending approval to Venezuela to appoint the new Colombian ambassador to that country.

This is a person close to President Petro. She was a legislative advisor for 12 years when he was a Congressman and accompanied him in his administration as Undersecretary of the Environment.
Through a short but forceful press release, he had previously reported that Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán had requested approval to elect the new Colombian ambassador to Venezuela following the departure of former ambassador Armando Benedetti.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that in the past few hours, with the aim of continuing to work on strengthening bilateral relations with Venezuela, Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán requested approval to the neighboring country to proceed with the appointment and occupation sent a new ambassador, after the resignation of the previous head of the diplomatic mission was accepted”, reported the Colombian Foreign Ministry.
Amidst all the scandal it was known that Leyva and Benedetti did not have the best of relations. And even so, the former ambassador may not have reported some trips to his superiors in order to skip his duties in Venezuela.
Even Benedetti himself acknowledged the fact in some chats that he published talking with Petro himself, before the meeting in which he and Sarabia left the office. “I’m sorry to bother you, but the Chancellor is taking away all my trips, private planes, etc. This is Laura!…and I’m silent,” Benedetti said.
