Minnie Driver Reveals ‘Good Will Hunting’ producer’s ‘disastrous’ put-down

Minnie Driver talks about the “devastating” experience of hearing a producer on “Good Will Hunting” say she was “not sexy” enough for the role she played in the film — you know, which earned her an Oscar nomination. did.

“I definitely had growing insecurities,” she explained. “That I wasn’t gorgeous. I wasn’t super pretty. The idea that this was the posture I had to pursue, and that I had to try to find ways to make myself beautiful. I thank God that I Didn’t do a ton of stuff that I could go on and do then. … It could have been a lot more damaging than that.”

While Hollywood may be in a slightly different place than when the beloved 1997 film hit theaters, Driver said some things haven’t changed.

“There are still times when people say ‘She’s too old’ or ‘She’s too tall,'” she said.

While answering a question on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen in 2016, Driver has spoken out about hurtful comments before. Cohen asked the driver to name the harshest thing anyone had ever said to him.

“The producers of ‘Good Will Hunting’ didn’t think I was hot enough to be in that movie and didn’t want me in the movie,” said Driver, sharing co-stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and director Gus Van Sant. While doing “It took a lot of struggle for me to land that role and I am grateful to him till date.”

“Wow, and wasn’t that the role you got an Oscar nomination for?” Cohen asked.

“Yes, but not to be hot,” replied the driver.
