Mira Costa Girls Volleyball got an early start to the new season.
Mustangs kick things off in Hawaii at the annual Ann Kong Invitational.
“It was the right way to start the season,” said Mira Costa’s coach Cameron Green. “It was really competitive volleyball. We played some tough Hawaiian teams, we lost to Punahou and then played them again in the semi-finals, made some adjustments and beat them in five[sets].
The Mustangs would eventually lose to Village Christian in the final.
Mustangs have already challenged themselves against some top competition and this weekend, they will get another chance.
Mira Costa is attending the Durango Fall Classic Invitational in Nevada, with South Torrance.
“It’s one of the toughest tournaments out there,” Green said. “We’ve tried to get by over the years, but we’re going to see a lot of competition and that will tell us where we stand.”
The tournament starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Saturday evening. For more information visit durangofallclassic.com.
In the previous season, the Mustangs were the only field team to feature in a match.
“We were able to go in (the gym), practice five times and we lost to Marymount in five,” Green said.
Just like in the season, Mustangs are taking extra precautions whenever they travel or play home matches.
“It’s so much fun to be a part of this program and I’m grateful to drive across this campus and play in this gym,” Green said. “We are following all the rules and taking every precaution and doing everything right. Each week has been challenging, but we’re doing what we can so the girls can have a safe season.”
