Miranda, the Twins again in ninth place, beat the Orioles

MINNEAPOLIS ( Associated Press) – Jorge Polanco hit a tying homer and Jose Miranda delivered a game-ending single as the Minnesota Twins again scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 on Saturday.

A day after Byron Buxton hit a two-run homer for a 3-2 win off George Lopez in the ninth match, Minnesota were back once again.

Polanco started ninth with a home run against López (4-4) that made it a 3-all. Alex Kiriloff doubled with a single out, Gary Sanchez took a single and Miranda won it with a single.

Miranda entered the game at third base on top of ninth after Gio Ursella was pulled for a pinch-runner in eighth.

Minnesota starter Sonny Gray played five innings, conceding six hits and three runs on three walks. Jharrel Cotton played three no-scoring innings in relief and Emilio Pagan (4-4) worked in ninth.

Jordan Lyles bowled 6 1/3 innings of a one-run delivery, giving four hits and getting seven dismissals. At one point, he retired 12 consecutive batsmen.

Anthony Santander hit his 15th home run for Baltimore. Orioles star Trey Mancini was back in the lineup after being restricted to pinch-hitting duties with a right arm injury on Friday and was 1 for 3.

Nick Gordon hit a single home run in the seventh, reducing the Twins’ deficit to 3–1 and eliminating the Lyles.

Single by Ursella and double by Luis Arez set up Carlo Correa’s sacrificial fly.

one more blow

Twins pitcher Randy Dobnak (right middle finger strain) suffered a setback in his recovery and received a cortisone shot to his finger on Friday 1. Dobnak has had several blows to his finger this season. He has torn two pulley tendons, which has put pressure on other tendons in the finger. He hasn’t pitched at any level this season.

“It’s been disappointing, because like I said before, day-to-day things, everything is fine – it’s only when I throw,” Dobnak said. “And the fact that it’s gotten good to the point where I’m going completely off the mound, and then it’s like – jerk! What’s a guy to do?”

Dobnak will rest for about two weeks before attempting to resume rehab. If all goes well, he said that he can return to the pitch in about six weeks.
