Miranda’s home run gives Twins victory over Brewers

MINNEAPOLIS ( Associated Press) — Jose Miranda sealed the game with a Josh Hader three-run home run, and the Minnesota Twins finally got a timely hit to beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 on Wednesday night.

Miranda’s third hit of the game landed in the second section of the left field stands. The 23-year-old rookie knew the ball had missed when he threw the bat and watched the Minnesota bench before the ball dropped.

Hader (0-3) defeated Jorge Polanco and gave a single to Max Kepler before Miranda’s homer.

Jhoan Duran (1-3) got his first career win with a relief inning, allowing a hit and walking. Milwaukee had runners in first and second in the ninth, but Jace Peterson rocked a double play that ended the threat.

Peterson nailed it early to mark the Brewers’ only run.

Minnesota has had several breakout opportunities, but the Twins are 1-10 with runners in the scoring position and have had 13 runners at base in the first nine innings.

For the Brewers, Dominican Willy Adames 4-0. The Venezuelan Omar Narvaez 2-0. The Mexican Luis Urías 3-0. Puerto Rican Victor Caratini 2-1.

For the twins, Puerto Ricans Carlos Correa 3-1; Miranda 5-3 with a run scored and three RBIs. The Dominicans Jorge Polanco by 4 to 0 with a run scheduled; Gilberto Celestino 2-1 with a produced. Colombian Gio Urshela 2-0.
