Mission Impossible 7 and 8 director Christopher McQuarrie has always been in the fan pool to direct Superman. Now the director has spoken about it
With James Gunn and Peter Safran leading the DC studio, Warner Bros. Discovery is in the process of making big changes when it comes to DC Comics characters. We also learned that for the director suicide squad why Guardians of the Galaxy Superman is a priority, and for fans the director Mission Impossible: Fallout, Christopher McQuarrie, would be a great choice. Especially when it was rumored that Henry Cavill had proposed the idea of directing a Man of Steel sequel to the director.
Since then, despite Cavill announcing his return, he was recently fired and James Gunn is busy writing a reboot of The Last Son of Krypton which will revolve around a younger version of the hero.
However, there is still a possibility that McQuarrie could direct a Superman film, as Gunn has revealed that he has no intention of directing the project. The filmmaker was recently approached by a fan to propose him as a candidate, prompting McQuarrie to respond in a hilarious way.
James and I do not have the ability to cooperate until the unimaginable power of each of us is exhausted @PomKlementieff. the manager said
While it would be great to see McQuarrie direct a DCU movie, there’s a chance he’s too busy as the director is still hard at work on both parts of the DCU. Mission Impossible: Deadly Judgment. Since it’s unclear how far along Gunn is in the writing process, this reboot probably won’t happen anytime soon.
Who do you think should direct the next Superman movie?
