MIT is developing a type of concrete for roads that will charge electric cars

The autonomy and charging of the electric car is two major challenges facing electric mobility in the future, but recent research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in the United States, can provide a solution to both.

Researchers from this renowned private university, one of the largest global innovation centers, have developed a new technology that turns concrete into a functional battery which allows roads and house foundations to charge electric vehicles.

Recharge your electric car while you drive

And we’re not talking about the latest technology or rare or scarce materials. This new development using materials that are abundant on our planet and can be put together easily such as cement, water and carbon black, a material produced by the incomplete combustion of petroleum products.

Thus, in MIT’s new supercapacitor, made by embedding carbon nanotubes in a cement mixture, The goal is to turn concrete into a superconducting battery.

This superconducting concrete can be used as a foundation for houses or roads, which allows the charging of electric vehicles while they are circulating in them. The technology is extremely durable, able to withstand the passage of heavy vehicles without compromising its load capacity.

By integrating superconducting concrete into the infrastructure, it offers a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to recharging electric vehicles. This development has the potential to change the way we think about energy storage and transport, offering a more efficient and environmentally friendly solution.
