Monkeypox: How does the profile of infected people change?

monkey pox It has a concerned scientific community, which tries to find options for its prevention, treatment and cure. Thus, scientists are watching how the profiles of infected people change as the disease progresses.

According to the reported cases, the most affected by the virus are men under the age of 40 who have sex with other men. However, as the virus spreads, it is infecting more and more people who do not fit this profile.

The New England Journal of Medicine published an article indicating that 98% of patients declared themselves to be gay, bisexual, or men who had sex with other men. Three quarters of these people claimed to be white and 40% claimed to be HIV positive.

“The concentration of cases in these individuals is a matter of the moment and each disease has its own dynamics,” said Alexandre Naim Barbosa, vice president of the Brazilian Society of Infectious Diseases. The purpose of this statement is to alert the community about access to information without stigma.

“We already have at least 70 or 80 kids in the world who have been diagnosed” monkey pox And half of them are under 4 years old”, said Naim Barbosa.

Unprotected intercourse is, by far, one of the highest forms of virus transmission, as it involves direct contact with the wounds of an infected person. However, the virus can also be transmitted through droplets of saliva or through contaminated objects such as dishes, towels and sheets.
