The Morenista pointed out that political forces have changed and that Sheinbuam has already decided that he will not be the party’s candidate for Mexico City.

In an interview with communicators Sergio Sarmiento and Guadalupe Juárez for the radio signal of The Herald, The Morenista pointed out that Sheinbaum had already made a decision about who would fight for that position next year and that it wasn’t him.
“I think Dr. Claudia (Sheinbuam) has already made her decision and I don’t think I will take that place,” he said.
Likewise, he said that he understands the political times and would understand if he does not actively participate in the next electoral process, since Morena will be replaced by Sheinbaum’s candidacy and he does not want to solve the problems with it like the past.
“If there is nowhere to participate, there will be no problem. I understand the political moments very well and I understand very well this change that is being presented. (…) Everything is very clear, the decision has been made a long time ago, not by a long shot. “I don’t want to create an uncomfortable attitude or dispute that will be resolved in the same way the last lawsuit was resolved,” he explained.
He also stressed that the perception of him is that of a person who has distanced himself from President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and that within the party he is blamed for the electoral defeats in the mayoralties of Mexico City in 2021, which is why people wouldn’t vote for him.
“The phenomenon would repeat itself as people would ask themselves why they should vote for me when they feel that I am far from the President of the Republic,” he asked.
“I will not dwell on the decisions (made) because people will turn to those who feel they are closer to the doctor (Claudia Sheinbuam), in this case closer, and I will not get involved in that because I understand very well that this situation will not change in a few days,” he admitted.
On September 10, Monreal had mentioned that he would analyze the conditions for a possible nomination for Mexico City, although he was not sure due to the definition of Claudia Sheinbaum as the standard-bearer of the Fourth Transformation for the 2024 presidential elections.
