The Porc d’Or awards, created with the aim of recognizing the professionalism, dedication and exceptional work of pig farms across Spain to ensure the future and progress of this sector, go beyond expectations. The edition, which took place this year on October 20th at the Palacio de la Lonja in Lérida, celebrates its 30th anniversary.
An event that its organizers, the Catalan research institute IRTA, whose new main partner is Ceva Salud Animal from 2023, and the Interprofessional of the White Coat Pig (Interporc), They want to celebrate this by adding new recognitions to their already prestigious awards many of which shine on the Aragonese farms, the main and maximum prize winners of the last editions of these awards.
The first novelty comes from Ceva Salud Animal, which designed the One Health Special Award, whose aim is to promote and give voice to actions and projects that promote the comprehensive “One Health” approach in pig farms. According to the organization, this is a recognition of the joint work of farmers and veterinarians who are implementing innovative measures on their farms to improve animal health, including appropriate management practices, setting high biosecurity standards, promoting animal welfare or investing in training and disease prevention.
Reproductively efficient farms
There is another new award. It is the Porc d’Or lactation management award, created to recognize reproductively efficient farms. those characterized by a high survival rate of piglets during lactation as well as good management practices in suckler farms. The award goes to farms that have the highest piglet survival value of all farms and whose numerical productivity (number of weaners per productive sow per year) is above the median in their category (third and fourth quartile). A total of twelve companies will be nominated to share the four awards for this new award.
Like any major anniversary worth its price, the 30th birthday celebration of those known as the Pig Oscar will be visible on the plate. So, The gastronomic proposal of the renowned chef Nandu Jubany is reserved for the awards gala dinner. which “seeks and finds a balance between high quality traditional cuisine and modern and brilliant cuisine, between complexity and subtlety, always with local and seasonal products and newly invented recipes that pay attention to every detail,” emphasize the organizers.
Owner of the catering company Jubany Events, for which he received the Fuera de Serie Gourmet 2021 Award for Best Catering, Jubany has several restaurants and hotels as well as event spaces is located in the province of Barcelona, Ibiza and Formentera, in Andorra and even in Singapore.
