The new Ford Territory is now sold in Chile as a 2024 model. The medium SUV imported by Ford from China since 2020, now receives many improvements in design, mechanics, housing and equipment , to continue to be one of the benchmarks of the brand. .
It is worth saying that in 2021, amid the microprocessor crisis, the Territory represents 33% of Ford sales in Chile and consolidates itself in third place in the SUV-C segment.
As we told you, this model was born from the association between Ford and Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) and for this update it remains a constructive base, which in the mechanical field offers a transverse front engine and front-wheel drive configuration, independent. suspension on all four wheels (McPherson and Multilink), and disc brakes on all four wheels.

If there’s one thing we criticize about the first generation Territory, it’s the lack of Ford DNA in terms of design, and the aesthetics full of Chinese industrial clichés, like the floating roof. Now, you only have to look at the silhouette to know that a lot has changed.
Let’s say that the new Territory expresses Ford’s new global guidelines in a better way, with soft lines and clean surfaces, leaving the folds more marked to emphasize the strength- on and muscularity in it.
The front is completely new, modern and elegant. It adds a large hexagonal grille that is typical of Ford, with the logo floating in the middle, while the new trend of non-folding lights is added, with an attractive design for DLRs that are very tall. and the first ones placed in the middle of the length.
At the back there are narrow and long lights with LED lines, a slightly inclined C-pillar ending in a marked fender, and two metal lines in the lower corner of the bumper. The wheels will be 18 and 19 inches, depending on the version, and all will have roof bars.
I would say that almost all of the exterior sheet metal is a new design, and that is reflected in the modern, elegant and more Ford silhouette.
Ford Territory 2024: powertrain
The first thing: in Chile, the Territory does not come with the same engine as in other Latin American markets, such as Argentina and Mexico, where a new 1.8 Turbo with 185 HP and 320 Nm is released. That engine does not meet the Euro6b emission standards that govern our country, so the brand must look for alternatives.
And the version that debuts here is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, with direct injection and turbo, which seems to be the same that JMC made for the first generation of the Territory. But the brand tells us about a block from the Ecoboost family, and that’s another thing.
Searching and searching, we didn’t find any 1.5 Ecoobost four-cylinder with these specifications, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. The truth is that this four-cylinder 1.5-liter capacity provides 164 HP of power and 248 Nm of torque. It is 21 horsepower and 23 Nm more than before.
And handling is done by a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which has been replaced by a CVT. By the numbers, it looks like a great mechanical improvement.
Ford Territory 2024: inner world
There are a lot of changes to the Territory’s cabin, and they’re all for the better. Let’s start with the habitability, which thanks to the growth of the wheelbase and that small width, is generous for three large occupants in the back seats, with good space for the knees and feet, and very good for the head.
The front seats are comfortable and in the upper version it has 10-position electric adjustments, so finding the best driving position is very easy. It also improves the feeling of the many materials used, with assemblies that mean a general improvement of the product.
Regarding the design, the cabin shows a new style of minimalist conception, more digital, but with some elements typical of the Chinese industry, such as the floating center console that releases a large storage space at the bottom. Everything now comes in a horizontal layout, while in the central part the rotary transmission control typical of Ford has come out and replaced the lever of the previous Territory.
Of course, the model cannot be abstracted from the global trend of integrated displays for a more immersive digital experience.
