JoventutXClima Mallorca and the Feminist Movement demonstrated this Friday at 6:00 am in the Plaza Mayor.
More than fifty people gathered this Friday, starting at 6:00 am, in the Plaza Mayor in Palma, called by JoventutXClima Mallorca and the Women’s Movement, to demand an “economic transition” with an “ecofeminist” perspective. As announced by the spokesperson of JoventutXClima Mallorca-Fridays of the Future, Pere Joan Femenia, and the spokesperson of the Feminist Movement, Yatli Hernández, “This Friday, thousands of young people around the world are once again taken to the streets to announce climate change and bold plans in the fight against climate change” nor “to emphasize women’s role in protecting the planet”.
Spokesperson for JoventutXClima Mallorca-Friday for the Future has defined its demands in six axes: transport, energy, education, tourism, territory and economy. Thus, in terms of transport, which “represents 62% of emissions in the Balearic Islands”, “he demanded not to expand the airport, to reduce the traffic of planes, mega-cruises and cars and better public transport”. The industry, which “represents almost 30% of the remaining emissions”, called for “innovative projects more respectful of the territory and people”. Regarding education, he believed that “it is necessary to better educate children and society in general.” According to tourism, he asked “to set limits and reduce the number of tourists”.
In terms of territory, he called for “the protection of natural space and the fight against real speculation.” And finally, in relation to the economy, they “diversify it and establish it in leadership and local production.” The spokeswoman for the Feminist Movement of Mallorca, for her part, defends the importance of “the visibility of ecofeminism and the struggle of women from the global south”. “Making these battles visible is something important so that citizens understand what is happening in other parts of the world and learn from it,” he said.
“European gangs directly attack all towns and communities, profiting from entire ecosystems. At the same time, activists who dare to fight for their rights are brutally silenced, repressed, and killed. In the last ten years, more than 1,700 activists have been murdered by governments, companies, associations and groups related to terrorists”, he explained. In this context, both agreed to demand “a systematic model of change that puts life at the center and not capital, that fights at the local level against those societies and regions that contribute to the destruction of the planet and social inequalities in women and minorities.” circles
“We need economic justice with an economic perspective,” they emphasized, emphasizing that “there is no justice for heaven without social and racial justice.” The tension ended with the reading of a clear and effective performance, with a FemSo baton, with the aim of giving the performance a more visual point. Previously, slogans such as “eco, echo, eco, ecofeminism!” and “What do you want? A climate of justice. When do we want this? Now.”
