The Chamber of Deputies plans to cut 3.9 billion pesos from the budget requested by the National Electoral Institute (INE) for 2024, reported Ignacio Mier coordinator of Morena in that legislative body.
Interviewed within the framework of the meeting of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) with Guadalupe Taddei president-advisor of INE, Ignacio Mier He rejected the possibility of the autonomous body to build a couple of properties.
“On the other hand, there is something else 400 million pesos for the construction of two buildings, which I think at this moment can wait, nothing urgent construct two buildings especially since, according to the implementation times involved in the same project, they will not be finished next year,” he explained.
The 400 million pesos will be taken from the 23,757 million pesos that the INE agreed to request on August 14 in the committees and later in the session of the General Council.
According to Mier’s estimate, this is expected 3,529 million was also cut given by the electoral authority within the so-called precautionary budget, for a popular consultation, and the extraordinary election required.
“Yes, in INE there are things that are not important, that I can tell you, for example, every time Morena makes the decision and the coalition as a whole, to make it part of our electoral platform, offer the Mexicans to vote for us and that they are in favor of a reform of the Judiciary, It will be registered in the electoral platform, there is no need for the consultation that I announced, so 3,500 million pesos will be released there,” said the Morenista leader.
He rejected that it was a cut and said “we will wait, it is 400 million; and then there will be others 15 million pesos which we also consider unnecessary. If we add that, we will be talking about 4 billion pesos.”
In the second interview, he said they had the first “kind, different” approach together with the president advisor of INE.
“We did not go deep, it was a first meeting, and from that, I stated that we explored some areas of chapter 6000 and gave it more priority to improve the electoral process, its organization. and the strengthening -on it,” he explained.
At the end of the meeting, the managing counsel, Guadalupe Taddei He went directly to the basement to avoid the media representatives, even when a reporter asked: “Will you respect your budget?”
“I hope so, let’s hope so,” he said and left the legislative precinct San Lazaro.
Before the meeting with Jucopo, the coordinator of the PRI Parliamentary Group, Ruben Moreira Valdez, considered that the INE should call for a large national agreement, to prevent drug trafficking from deciding the election.
“I wish—that the presidential advisor—comes to discuss the most important issue that is currently there regarding the election, which is to prevent drug traffickers from deciding the election, what is the role of the INE in the defense of democracy,” Moreira Valdez pointed out.
