Most of Poland’s pandemic advisers resign over government support

WARSAW, Poland ( Associated Press) – More than two-thirds of Poland’s COVID-19 medical advisory body resigned on Friday, saying the government was not heeding their advice in responding to the pandemic.

He also complained of a “growing tolerance” in the government for state officials downplaying the threat of a pandemic or the need for vaccinations.

The mass resignation comes days after a regional education official was criticized for describing vaccination against COVID-19 as an “experiment”. The right-wing government has ignored calls for his dismissal.

In a letter to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, outgoing board members said that “very limited action” had been taken during the fall and against the ongoing threat from the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, “despite a high number of fatalities”. “

Morawiecki’s office responded by saying that the government had to take into account the various differing opinions coming from businessmen, teachers and others in its decisions. It said the advisory body’s formula would be changed, but did not provide any details.

In response to increased infections caused by Omicron, Poland’s government has banned access to indoor public areas, but avoided lockdowns or outdoor mask mandates.
