According to the Mountain West Conference’s Precision Media Poll released Wednesday, the Air Force and Colorado state football teams in the Mountain Division were selected to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Air Force (2-2) finished fifth in the conference last year, and CSU (2-3) finished eighth. Mountain West did not have divisions in 2020 due to the short season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Memes were voted as the favorite to win the Mountain West three times from 2001–03. Precision polls predict the Falcons to never win the conference.
Perennial favorite Boise State was selected to place first in the Mountain Division, with 23 out of 25 first-place finishers. The Broncos, who have started the season as favorites for 11 consecutive years, are making 19 starts from their 2020 squad. Wyoming took the other two first places and finished second.
In the West Division, Nevada was the favorite to finish on top, receiving 19 votes out of 25. Other first-place votes went to San Jose State (five) and Fresno State (one).
CSU began its season hosting South Dakota State on September 3 at Canvas Stadium. Air Force opens at home against Lafayette on September 4.
