Oriol Martori Gallissà, Director General of the Department of Transport, presented with Mireia Ingla i Mas, Mayor Sant Cugat, Oriol Juncadella y Fortuny, Director of FGC Operadora, Miquel Martí, President of Moventis and Moventis CEO, Josep Maria Martí. with new electric buses that serve the cable that connects the Sant Joan de Ferrocarrils station with the Can Sant Joan shopping center in Sant Cugat del Vallès.
The four buses operated by Moventis are 18.6 meters long, have a capacity for 118 users, have no barriers and consume 125 kWh per 100 km. The railways will be super fast charging through the points at the station, which are now being installed to complete the night time battles in the working depot. The Can Sant Joan line has a demand of 429,000 trips per year and is one of the first examples of measures to support travel to industrial farms through the use of public transport, in this case, with a mode between bus and train.
Decarbonization
The Department of the Territory, through the General Directorate of Transport and Railways of Catalonia (FGC), is renewing the fleet of seven intercity lines that now use electricity to connect the FGC stations with the nearest urban and industrial centers. The first seven lines will be general electric intercity lines.
At the end of December, the line that connects the FGC station Olesa de Montserrat with Esparreguera was renewed with electric buses. Other roads planned for electrification are Bellaterra-Parc de l’Alba, Sant Vicenç dels Horts – Torrelles de Llobregat, Capellades – Station, Piera-Urbanizaciones and Piera-Hostalets del Pierola.
Electric vehicles will replace 12 diesel vehicles in total. In urban networks, the use of electric vehicles is already widespread, but this is not the case in the interurban network, where the requirement of vehicle autonomy for the prescribed means means that there is still no fully developed electric vehicle industry for public transport and it is necessary to adapt each activity to the characteristics and requirements of each service.
This program is a response to the government’s mobile decarbonization initiative, which will result in an annual reduction of 800 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. There is work that improves air quality and reduces noise pollution. In fact, the plan is based on the Government’s Climate Action Commitment and the FGC’s 10/30 Strategy, both aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda.
