MP arrests prosecutor Francia Medina for stealing over 63 million lempira from the Central Bank

The Public Ministry reported this Wednesday that it detained prosecutor Francia Sofía Medina, who was assigned to the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime (FESCCO) in San Pedro Sula and was investigated for stealing more than 63 million lempira (evidence in dollars). that the Central Bank of Honduras has kept as evidence.

The Public Ministry of Honduras, as part of the new work policy carried out during this administration, which has as one of its pillars the fight against corruption head-on wherever it comes from, to all citizens at the national level and in the community. international, reports the following:

1.- Today, Prosecutor France Sofía Medina was detained, who was assigned to the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime (FESCCO) in San Pedro Sula and was investigated for stealing more than 63 million lempira (dollar evidence) kept by the Central Bank of Honduras as evidence.

2.-According to the investigations of the special teams of the Technical Criminal Investigation Agency (ATIC), these withdrawals were made by Prosecutor Medina without communicating with the higher authorities of the Public Ministry for the past two years, so now A search was also carried out in his house in search of more evidence.

3.-Since July of this year 2023, the said official has been incapacitated, despite this, he requested additional refunds from the Central Bank of Honduras on two occasions, which were delivered without following administrative procedures due to because he is no longer FESCCO prosecutor , because of this he will be accused of the crimes of money laundering, abuse of authority and theft, destruction, concealment or disabling of custody documents.

4.- The Public Ministry has asked the authorities of the Central Bank to explain what administrative mechanisms are used for these returns because the prosecutor does not have authorizations to continue doing these procedures.

We also want to announce that we have begun the process of purging against prosecutors, agents or any employee of the Public Ministry dedicated to committing criminal acts, because more corruption will not be tolerated.
