The BMC has started repair work of about 60 per cent of the roads this year. Data from the BMC’s road and traffic department shows that contracts worth Rs 2,210 crore have been awarded to contractors to repair 505 new roads earlier this year.
Officials said that work has started on 295 roads so far, while repair of the remaining 210 roads will take time as no-objection certificate will be issued from the traffic police to avoid traffic jams. In order to improve the quality of roads, the civic body is paying more attention to the construction of cement concrete roads. BMC has planned to do 211 km of concretization.
With no land for a Metro car shed, delays in civil and electrical works and no sign of trial runs starting soon, Mumbaikars are expected to build the first underground Metro Line 3 for the Colaba-SeepZ-Bandra corridor at least 2024. Will have to wait.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), which is executing the much-delayed Metro 3 line, said that they now aim to complete the first phase of the Metro corridor on Bandra-Seepz by January 2024 and will take six more phases. 1 month to start, that too only if the Metro car shed land issue is resolved within three months.
The initial deadline to complete the work was 2021. However, it seems that it is not just the car shed issue that is delaying the work, but other works are also getting delayed and the first underground metro will be ready for the public only after 2024.
