The murder of a 21-year-old youth committed in Penitentiary on Saturday morning arouses shock and incomprehension among his friends, who described the victim as a “sweet and free boy”.

“He was a funny and very quiet person. He always felt that others came first. I don’t see why someone attacked him,” said Noémy Mercier, a longtime friend.

At approximately 4 am, officers from the Repentigny Police Department received a call for a seriously injured person on rue de Bernières. The victim, Youcef Khelil, was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The last time I saw him was four or five months ago. We didn’t see each other every day, but we were a group that remained friends after high school. We heard from us from time to time, and it was good,” said the girl, who went to the scene of the tragedy on Saturday afternoon.

According to her, Youcef Khelil still lived with his parents, in the rue de Bernières.
The investigation was transferred to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which went on site to analyze the scene and understand the circumstances surrounding this event.

“We still do not know the type of weapons involved in this attack,” said Catherine Bernard, a spokeswoman for the SQ.
According to our information, Youcef Khelil was not infamous. The study is ongoing in cooperation with local authorities.
