Amel Benali will formally appear at the Royal Court on Wednesday accused of the second degree murder of Luiza Ouali.
A sad event occurred about the middle of February in an apartment in the rue de Liège Ouest, in Montreal. According to available information, the victim was 54 years old who was beaten to death, but the murder was not reported to the police.
In fact, it wasn’t until February 19 that the authorities made a shocking discovery, following a call to an altercation between Benali and a neighbor. By this account, Benali allegedly stabbed the man in the throat, so the woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
But, after inspecting the premises, the body of Ms. Ouali was found by the officers, aged 55. The signs of violence made the thesis of murder evident. And following the investigation, Corona is now convinced that Benali is responsible for the murder.
But it remains to be seen whether the defendant is held criminally guilty of the crimes with which he is accused. That is, according to our information, Benali has a psychiatric history and she is suffering from schizophrenia.
In the first appearance regarding the serious attack, the defense had requested a psychiatric evaluation from the National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry Philippe-Pinel. The report was due today, but due to delays, the experts could not produce it in time.
After his appearance, Benali will return to court next week for further proceedings. Until now it has remained under protection.
