Mutant Surprise from Ms. Marvel explained by MCU producer

For years, Marvel fans have wondered: when will the MCU introduce mutants? The triumphant return was teased by Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, with avid viewers receiving only breadcrumbs for his arrival, like Charles Xavier’s return to the big screen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now it looks like lady marvelIt’s ending has a key connection to the reintroduction of the X-Men.

Warning – This article contains spoilers for Miss Marvel end of season.

It has already been explained that the introduction of mutants was avoided in the Doctor Strange sequel to prevent such a big reveal from overshadowing Wanda’s story. Sadly, it looks like it will overshadow Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan as the season finale of lady marvel revealed that she is not just a stowaway.

In the final scene of the season finale, “No Normal”, Matt Lintz’s Bruno Carrelli reveals to Kamala that there was “something different in your genes” and call it “mutation” as the theme of X-Men: The Animated Series is played. This twist reveals that Kamala Khan is the first mutant to be properly introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Series chief writer and executive producer Bisha K. Ali explains and confirms how it felt to introduce mutants through Kamala Khan in lady marvel in a new interview.

Ms. Marvel Introduces Mutants to the MCU

In an interview with Marvel.com released shortly after the season finale of lady marvel, writer and executive producer Bisha K. Ali expressed her excitement at alluding to mutants for the first time in the main MCU, with Kamala Khan being the first to be introduced. exclaimed Ali, “Oh my God, best day of my life!”

However, Ali also revealed that Kamala being a mutant wasn’t always the plan and how, when it comes to Marvel Studios, “something is always a moving piece:”

“It wasn’t from the start [of the show]. With Marvel, something is always a moving piece, and we’re trying to resolve this question of, ‘If any of the [Kamala’s family] put the bracelet on, would they have powers?’ The answer has always been no, from a character point of view, no.”

One reason Kamala had this new backstory was to explain how she could harness the power of the bracelet when her family couldn’t. “fits the logic of the broader MCU.”

There it continued, “I feel so excited as a viewer of my show. The teenage Bisha fan in me is like, ‘I can’t believe this.'” As for Kamala being the MCU’s first mutant, Ali compares it to Kamala being given “some more of the dream:”

“And the fact of being Kamala – is your. It’s like your wildest dream has already come true during the show [gaining powers], but then we just gave her some more of the dream. It’s amazing. I am really happy.”

Once lead star Iman Vellani found out about her character’s connection to the X-Men, she freaked out and took the news directly to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige:

“They sent me, and only me, the draft [of the final episode], and I immediately freaked out… I emailed Kevin Feige in capital letters. I was like, ‘Are you really doing this?’ He is sure? I’m so honored!’ I was yelling at him through an email. I was freaking out. This is the biggest deal in the world, and the fact that it’s happening on our show is crazy.”

A mutant on your father’s side?

To understand this and explain Kamala Khan’s supposed genetics, she is Undercover due to her mother’s lineage and could only have inherited her X-Gene from her father, whose own X-Gene and powers are inert. This would explain why Yusuf supposedly cannot use the power of the bracelet, as he is not a Clandestine, but also why Kamala’s mother Muneeba cannot use it either, due to the lack of the X-Gene.

The fact that this was not planned “from the start [of the show]” makes the inclusion of Clandestine even more confusing, especially when it’s heavily implied that the Kree are involved in their origin. But does that mean the Kree are somehow involved in the origin of mutants? Is it possible that instead of the Kree creating the Inhumans in the MCU, they created mutants through prehistoric experiments on humanity?

It is unknown when the mutants will be drawn up, but the best bet will be on The wonders when it releases in theaters on July 28, 2023.
