NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took a photo of a rock formation that remarkably resembles a bear.
“A Bear on Mars?” he asked in a statement from the team that analyzed the image. Hardly, but the resemblance is uncanny in this photo taken on December 12.
The pattern is formed by stress fractures running in a circle around a collapsed structure. From the right angle it looks like a bear’s mouth.
Scientists suggest that it may once have been a deposit-filled impact crater, which would explain the circular rift.
According to the statement, the raised structure in the middle could be a volcano or an outpouring of mud.
The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, a satellite launched in 2005, has provided unprecedented science on its mission.
But this and other probes have also been a source of light entertainment in the form of funny space photographs.
The human brain is known to have a tendency to perceive recognizable shapes, a phenomenon known as pareidolia.
Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spotted the logo in 2019 star trek On the Red Planet, for example.
Others swear that the image flown from NASA’s Mars rover showed alien crabs ready to pounce on your face, which of course was debunked by NASA.
Some have said that they have seen the face of Mahatma Gandhi on Google Mars Map.
The most iconic example of pareidolia is “Face on Mars”, an image taken by NASA’s Viking 1 spacecraft in 1976.
The shape resembling a human face has attracted many conspiracy theories.
Unfortunately, when NASA got closer, it turned out that the enigmatic face was nothing more than a crest.
