Nation World News, JAKARTA – The United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has identified a strange material on Mars. The material was first observed by the Persistence rover on July 12.
According to NASA, the material did not come from aliens or other biological objects but from a piece of Dacron. Dacron is a type of synthetic fiber that is embedded with resin and is often used in high-performance clothing. In terms of firmness, however, it is probably part of a thermal protective blanket.
“This particular piece of mesh appears to have crumpled or torn significantly. This indicates that the material is subject to strong forces,” the blog wrote.
Perseverance isn’t the first piece of debris left from the rover’s landing to appear in the Webb rover’s path. In June, Perseverance observed a piece of shiny foil-like material, possibly part of a thermal blanket at Entry, Descent and Landing (EDL), trapped in a rock outcrop.
In April, the Ingenuity helicopter that landed on Mars in Perseverance took photographs of the protective shell and parachute carrying from the EDL. Perseverance arrived safely on the Red Planet.
