NASA publishes images that show signs of a mighty river on Mars

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States (NASA) publishes new images captured by the Perseverance rover Which show signs that there was once a mighty river on Mars.

As per what was told by the space authority, Images show the depth and speed at which this tributary moves Findings to be deeper and faster than previously reported by scientists.

“The river was part of a network of waterways that emptied into Jezero Crater, the area the rover had been exploring since it landed more than two years ago.” wide nose.

on the other hand it is said “Understanding these aqueous environments could help scientists search for signs of ancient microbial life that may be preserved in Martian rock.”

It should be noted that Perseverance is exploring the top of a fan-shaped pile of sedimentary rock that is 820 feet (250 m) high and has curved layers that suggest flowing water.

Even then, Scientists want to know if water flows in relatively shallow streams closer than rover Curiosity From NASA Evidence was found in Gale Crater, or a more powerful river system.

From hundreds of images captured by Perseverance’s Mastcam-Z instrument, two new mosaics suggest the latter, revealing important clues: coarse sediment grains and pebbles, NASA revealed.

“They indicate a high-energy river that is carrying a lot of debris. The more powerful the water flow, the more easily it can move large pieces of material.” said Libby Ives, postdoctoral researcher at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

Regarding previous NASA findings, Years ago scientists noted a series of curved bands of layered rock within Jezero Crater that they called “curved units”. These layers could be seen from space, but they were finally able to get a closer look at them thanks to Perseverance.

A location within the curved unit, dubbed “Skinkle Haven,” is occupied by one of the new Mastcam-Z tiles. Scientists are convinced that the curved layers here formed from powerfully flowing water. “In this regard, the unit ends.
