NASA’s Curiosity rover reveals evidence of past life on Mars

Presence of clay minerals formed from lakes – NASA

Cairo – 27 June 2022: Traveling across the surface of Mars, the Curiosity rover discovered evidence of the past existence of lakes on the “Red Planet”.

The NASA rover unearthed on Mount Sharp, which is about 5 km high, clay minerals formed from lakes and streams that were flowing from Mars’ central Gale Crater summit, but those currents turned into sand dunes and sediments. According to NASA, the region is filled with the salty mineral sulfate from being rich in soil, which could indicate a major change in the Martian climate billions of years ago.

In addition, according to the Gizmodo website, which specializes in scientific and technical news, more sulfates were discovered as the Curiosity rover climbed to higher altitudes on Mount Sharp. The rover will soon begin digging up the last rock sample collected in the transitional zone in hopes of learning more about changes in the mineral composition of rocks in that region.

“We no longer see lake sediments that we saw years ago on Mount Sharp less so. Instead, we see a lot of evidence of arid climates, such as dry sand dunes that were occasionally swamped by streams. This one The big change is what happened to the lakes millions of years ago,” Ashwin Vasavada, Curiosity project leader at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a press release.

Vasavada said in his statement, “The area that Curiosity is currently exploring also includes hills that may have formed under dry conditions, and large, wind-swept sand dunes that form rock over time.” I’m likely to freeze.”

According to NASA, the Curiosity rover has also found evidence of sediment that was carried by water currents through sand dunes. These deposits are now visible as steep layers of craggy rocks.

Despite Mars’ dry atmosphere today, scientists believe it may have been habitable one day, as it contained water bodies, but after the Red Planet lost its atmosphere, its water dried up.
