WASHINGTON ( Associated Press) — Yadiel Hernandez and Maikel Franco homered, and the Washington Nationals ended the Houston Astros’ 11-game winning streak by crushing them 13-6 on Saturday.
Under Dusty Baker, the Astros came within a game of matching the franchise record of 12 straight wins set in 1999, 2004 and 2018.
Houston’s pitching staff posted a 0.91 ERA during this hot streak. But Nelson Cruz and the Nationals had 14 hits and five walks off five pitchers.
Dominican starter Cristian Javier (2-1) was penalized for seven runs and eight hits in just 3 2/3 innings. The Astros had allowed a total of just four runs in their previous five games.
Cruz had a three-run double, hit two singles and walked one. His compatriot Juan Soto added a double, two walks and three runs scored.
The Dominican José Siri added a home run, a triple and a single. Cuban Yuli Gurriel also had three hits.
Josh Rogers (2-2) pitched one inning for the win.
For the Astros, the Dominican Siri 5-3 with two runs scored and two produced. Cubans Yordan Álvarez 4-0, Gurriel 4-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Aledmys Díaz 5-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Puerto Rican Martin Maldonado 3-1.
For the Nationals, the Venezuelans César Hernández 3-0, Keibert Ruiz 4-2 with two runs scored. The Dominicans Soto 3-1 with three runs scored, Cruz 4-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Franco 5-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Víctor Robles 4-2 with one runs scored and two RBIs. The Cuban Hernandez 5-2 with a run scored and four RBIs.
