Tyr Nichols, a 29-year-old man, died on January 10 in Memphis, Tennessee, three days after being violently arrested by five Memphis police officers.
This Friday, January 27, the photos of his arrest were made public, causing shock in the United States community.
In the run-up to the game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, a minute’s silence was held in memory of Tyra Nichols.
The NBA then issued the following statement

“The images of Tyra Nichols’ life unnecessarily cut short are shocking. While steps have been taken toward those responsible in this instance, the NBA continues to work with advocates, politicians and security personnel to work toward a resolution of the issues.” We continue to cope. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Nichols, the entire Memphis community, and those affected by the tragic loss and images.
The Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx franchises also issued statements regarding the matter.
