The DGT, through a tweet, wanted to announce that emergency approved variants of the V16 Lite are already on sale with the car. They bring a new and important update for which it is important to buy them and not others.
Innovation
These V16 lights are approved because they are geolocated. They are networked till 2038 and till now there are 5 companies that manufacture them. Despite this, only three have been announced in the DGT’s tweet. However, more brands will appear and all of them will be published on the official traffic website.
How to join?
The main difference with the V16 lights that we’ve known for a few years is that when the light is removed and activated, it will emit a frequency 100 seconds after it’s connected to both the carmaker’s cloud and the access point so that it can send information to driving assistance applications like Maps or Waze and of course to the DGT.
Will the current V16 be banned?
Some choose to buy it through the Internet, in a store or even have it come with the car when they bought it. Well, once the Geolocalized ones are issued approved by the DGT, the old ones will no longer be valid from January 1, 2026.
What if I already have one?
Our advice is that you still buy one of the newer ones as it may prevent a fatal accident especially at night. However, if you have an older one, it is likely that given road and good visibility conditions it will work for you, so leave it in your car until the above date at which they will be made illegal.
What is the end of all this?
The end of it all is to avoid a large number of fatal hit-and-runs, because otherwise you’d have to manually manage to call the police or your insurance, despite the fact that the light turns on the same way and flashes the same way. In this way, with the signal sent, the authorities will be informed and they will be there in a few minutes, setting up an operation. In addition, the Directorate General of Traffic will report the incident on the screen and, as we said earlier, if one goes with Maps or Waze, an alert for the damaged vehicle on the shoulder will be triggered, thus gaining discretion.
Which models are accepted?
There are only 5 at the moment, although many more will be added. So far we have: Help Flash IoT, Flashled SOS, PFLED One V16, SOS Rode DP-EL2022-C1 and iVotoLight IoT.
