New indoor golf simulator at RiNo rolls out the green carpet

Winter is coming.

But that’s another reason why Kyle McGee wanted to open his second indoor golf course in Denver this week. Golfers will need a place to continue playing when the fairways go to sleep and the greens freeze.

“There is no shortage of golfers with the development of golf. But there isn’t enough time to play, ”said McGee, who opened Optimum Golf in North Park Hill in 2019.

He’s gearing up to open a second location at RiNo at 3563 Walnut St. on Tuesday.

McGee first opened Optimum Golf at 5059 E. 38th Ave with business partners Brad Alston and Mike Tomasi.

The original location includes six simulator bays, which McGee said are usually booked one to two weeks in advance, a golf lawn, and a marketplace. There is no bar.

“I understand that a lot of people like to drink while playing golf. But when you go to courses in a traditional setting, they have a bar, ”McGee said. “We are golf professionals, educators and business professionals, and I see it as a golf course.”

The optimal rental of golf simulators is $ 15 for 30 minutes or $ 30 for an hour. McGee and Alston, members of the Professional Golf Association, also offer private lessons starting at $ 150. Lessons with four other certified golf coaches start at $ 100. Tomasi works as a locksmith and club builder in the retail industry. The indoor golf club has 250 students at its original location.

McGee, 42, started playing golf at the age of 26.

“I used to play hockey and got injured and couldn’t play, so a friend of mine advised me to go to the training field,” McGee said. “I hit one good 3 iron, and the next day I took my entire hockey bag and swapped it out for a golf bag and a driver. One swing – and I was hooked. ”

Optimum Golf opens its second location in Denver this week.

So, he started working in the food and beverage industry on golf courses to play golf. He was Tournament Director and Event Coordinator at Park Hill Golf Course for seven years, where he met Tomasi, who ran his own indoor golf simulator, and Allston, who ran the PGA training center.

After entering the PGA program, McGee worked as an Assistant Professional at Overland as well as a Sales Representative for several different golf club companies.

Andrew Feinstein, CEO of EXDO Development Group, owns 3,500 square feet that will open across the street from Reelworks, formerly known as EXDO Event Center, Optimum Golf RiNo. After taking lessons at North Park Hill with McGee for a year, he noticed growing demand and offered additional space for rent.

MADEwkshp previously occupied the RiNo space and then left its now closed LoHi location at 2900 Zuni St.

“As a student and homeowner, I am delighted to have an Optimum Golf at RiNo,” Feinstein said. “We have 2,500 units just completed or under construction within walking distance, and almost 1.5 million square feet of new office building either here or under construction. Where are they going to go play golf and get lessons? Right here.”

Optimum Golf RiNo includes five Uneekor golf simulators, a golf simulator and a retail store with wedges, golf balls, gloves, hats, bags and other clothing. The rental price is the same in both locations.

“These machines are specifically designed for indoor use,” McGee said. “They are infrared and photometric. Basically, because the sensor unit is above and in front of you, it does not make any mistakes regarding the tracking of the ball. It takes pictures and uses infrared information, so every time you swing, you can look back at the monitor and it will show you time-lapse photos of your golf club hit from the front. ”
