New York announces new mixed-use affordable housing development for Brooklyn neighborhood

NEW YORK – Governor Cathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday the opening of Logan Fountain, a mixed-use project developed under the 2016 East New York rezoning to transform a defunct gas station into affordable housing units, transitional housing for homeless families Will convert to housing and new commercial spaces.

The project complements Governor Hochul’s broader plans to make housing more affordable, equitable and sustainable. In the Fiscal Year 2023 state budget, the governor successfully introduced and secured a five-year, $25 billion comprehensive housing plan that would increase the housing supply by building or preserving 100,000 affordable homes across New York, including vulnerable populations 10,000 with the support of services for Rs. In addition to electrifying an additional 50,000 homes.

“In New York, we are making targeted investments that increase affordable housing opportunities and provide supportive and transitional homes for families,” said Governor Hochul. “Housing and economic development go hand in hand, and Logan Fountain is a perfect example of how Mayor Adams and I are working together to bring new homes, new services and new businesses to neighborhoods in every city. “

Located at 265 Logan Street, Logan Fountain was designed as a hybrid model that would include an affordable and supportive housing component and family shelter in a 13-story building. The East Wing will include 69 affordable homes for low-income families between 50 and 70 percent of the area’s median income and 105 homes for the previously homeless.

The West Wing will include 169 units for homeless families served by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. The building will also include approximately 7,677 square feet of ground-floor retail space along Atlantic Avenue. The project was designed by MHG Architects and will be built by Broadway Builders, a subsidiary of The Hudson Companies.

Logan Fountain will provide a variety of services to its residents. Towards supportive and affordable housing, amenities will include a fitness center, a landscaped common courtyard with a children’s play area, several terraces with garden areas, bike storage rooms and laundry facilities. On the transitional housing side, families will have access to indoor and outdoor childcare space, bike storage and laundry facilities.

“Projects like the Logan Fountain are critical to revitalizing the communities of East New York and the city as a whole,” said Mayor Adams. “This project will transform a defunct gas station that provides next to nothing for the community, with much needed sustainable affordable housing, safe beds for our homeless neighbors, and commercial space to serve the community, all within easy reach of public transportation. I am excited to watch this important project move forward and look forward to celebrating with the New Yorkers who will call it home.”

Logan Fountain is conveniently located two blocks from the Norwood Avenue J Metro Station and a short walk from the Euclid Avenue A Metro Station.

Construction began in August and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

The project is a major component of the 2016 East New York rezoning, which will bring $16.7 million in capital investment to the neighborhood. In developing the investment strategy, the City worked with the community in 2014 and created an East New York Community Plan to prioritize the need for new infrastructure, parks, community amenities, affordable housing, and small business support.

“We are pleased to see construction begin on the Logan Fountain mixed-use affordable housing development that, when completed, will provide hundreds of vulnerable individuals and families with the affordable and transitional housing they need to achieve stability and security. ” New York said the City Dept. of Social Services Commissioner, Gary P. Jenkins. “Projects like this are critical to our ongoing efforts to efficiently connect New Yorkers with the high-quality housing and shelter opportunities they need and deserve. We are committed to getting this incredible project off the ground. We are grateful to our public and private partners, and we look forward to working together toward our shared goal of making this city more equitable and affordable for all.”
