Oleksiy Kuleba, head of Kyiv’s regional military administration, said explosions were heard in Kyiv on Thursday, according to a CNN team on the ground, while air defense systems were activated in the capital region.
“After the night attack of self-detonating drones, the enemy is attacking Ukraine from various directions with air and sea cruise missiles from strategic aircraft and ships,” the Ukrainian Air Force said.
Air raid sirens also sounded in several cities as officials reported missile attacks and activation of air defense systems.
The city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, said a series of explosions were also heard in Kharkiv.
“Information on which targets were hit and whether there were any casualties is still being clarified,” Terekhov said.
Vitaly Kim, head of the region’s military administration, said five missiles were intercepted over the sea in the southern Mykolaiv region.
In central Ukraine, missiles were also reported in the Zhytomyr region and air defense systems were activated, according to Vitaly Bunenko, head of its regional military administration.
In the Poltava region, east of the Dnieper River, explosions were also heard and air defense systems were activated, said Dmitro Lunin, head of the Poltava regional military administration.
