The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Elxsi to facilitate joint research in the field of electric vehicles. As part of the MoU, a new laboratory will be set up at NITC dedicated to studying electric vehicle fields and providing a platform for research and development for students and faculty.
The total cost of setting up the lab is ₹1 crore, with ₹75 lakh contributed by Tata Elxsi and ₹25 lakh by the institute. The collaboration aims to foster industry connections for NITC while equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to the electric vehicle sector.
Manoj Raghavan, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Elxsi stated that the EV industry has gained significant momentum in the market as 10% of vehicles registered in Kerala are EVs. However, the industry faces challenges such as power shortages and high prices for electric vehicles and batteries. Raghavan is confident that the collaboration between industry and the Institute will effectively address these challenges.
Raghavan further emphasized that institutes such as NITC can carry out medium-term projects with a focus on electric vehicles and promote innovation in the industry. Tata Elxsi looks forward to innovative projects from NITC as this collaboration will strengthen the entire industry.
Tata Elxsi, a company active in areas such as healthcare, communications and software, is interested in exploring further collaborations with NITC based on the success of this initiative.
