North Carolina mother, young daughter found safe after missing in 2016

A North Carolina mother who went missing with her young daughter in 2016 has been found safe, according to officials.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Amber Rene Weber, then 21, and her 1-year-old daughter, Miracle Smith, were last seen in Fayetteville on December 4, 2016. His disappearance was reported on January 31, 2017, but the leads in the case went cold, police said.

The couple were found Tuesday at a home in Banlevel, North Carolina, about 20 miles north of Fayetteville. In 2018, they were believed to be nearby in Harnett County after Weber received medical treatment there, but his family was not able to contact a Raleigh-Durham CBS affiliate. WNCN Reported.

WTVD, an affiliate of Raleigh-Durham ABC, reported that U.S. Marshals, agents for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and representatives from the Harnet County Sheriff’s Office, found Amber Weber and Miracle Smith in a home on Lemon Lane in Bunlevel. According to the US Marshals, four firearms were confiscated from the home and 59-year-old Joe Smith was taken into custody. Officials said he was earlier arrested on January 19 for possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal.

Police said Fayetteville Police’s investigative assistant Sonia Roldan would reopen the case in 2021 after partnering with the US Marshals to search for new leads for Weber and Miracle. Officials said the information led investigators to believe Weber and Miracle had links with Smith at Banlevel.
