In the state of North Carolina, Republican lawmakers have banned virtually all abortions after 12 weeks of pregnancy, overriding a veto Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper had issued to block a bill banning it. Protesters inside the state capitol on Tuesday night began chanting after the ban was passed by the North Carolina Senate and House of Representatives![Esto es una] Shame! Oh[Esto es una] Shame! Oh[Esto es una] Shame!”.
Speaker Tim Moore: “By 72 votes in favor and 48 against, the petition is approved. The House of Representatives has overridden the governor’s veto, so the bill has become law despite the governor’s objections.”

Republican lawmakers in the state managed to win enough of a majority to avoid a potential veto in April, when Tricia Cotham, a longtime Democratic Party member, defected to a Republican.
