World-renowned climate scientist and award-winning physicist Dr. David W. Keith will deliver the keynote address at North Central College’s 2022 Rally Symposium for Undergraduate Research. 24th The annual event, which showcases scholarly work and presentations from undergraduate researchers from all majors, will take place on Thursday, April 21, beginning with a keynote address at 8:30 a.m. at the Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville.
Dr. Keith is the Gordon Mackay Professor of Applied Physics at Harvard University’s John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Professor of Public Policy at Harvard’s Kennedy School. As one of the world’s leading authorities on climate science, Dr. Keith led the development of Harvard’s Solar Geoengineering Research Program, an initiative that seeks to address some of the world’s greatest problems facing the environment. Throughout his career, Dr. Keith has worked to conserve and protect the planet at the intersection of climate science, energy technology and public policy. For his work, he was awarded a medal from Queen Elizabeth II at the 2013 Diamond Jubilee and was named one of Time magazine’s “Heroes of the Environment”. Dr. Keith’s greatest passion is for teaching, which he shares with students from Harvard, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Calgary and around the world through his online edX courses.

Rally Seminar since 1998
The rally seminar was first organized in 1998 and is part of the college’s honor day. The program is named after Dr. Joseph Rall, MD, PhD, of the North Middle Class of 1940. Dr. Rall was instrumental in attracting Nobel laureates and other eminent scholars to speak to the seminar attendees.
