North Korea fires two short-range ballistic missiles

SEOUL, South Korea ( Associated Press) – North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into its eastern waters on Friday in its latest display of weapons after US and South Korean warplanes. They will conduct joint military drills that Pyongyang views as a rehearsal for an invasion. ,

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement that the South Korean military detected missiles launched from North Korea’s capital region at around 4:32 p.m.

The South Korean military has increased surveillance and preparedness in close coordination with the United States.

Nuclear-capable US bombers and advanced stealth jets flew near the Korean Peninsula in a joint training with South Korean warplanes on Tuesday.

The South Korean Defense Ministry said the exercise is part of a bilateral agreement in which the United States has reinforced its commitment to defend its Asian ally with all its available military capabilities, including nuclear ones.

North Korea usually describes military exercises between the United States and South Korea as a rehearsal for invasion, although the allies say they have no intention of attacking the North.

The United States and South Korea held their drills after North Korea recently claimed to have conducted its first military spy satellite and key tests needed to develop a new strategic weapon, the potential of a more mobile intercontinental ballistic missile. Reference.

North Korea said it launched a pair of rockets on Sunday to test cameras and other systems as part of the development of its first military reconnaissance satellite.

North Korean state press published low-resolution photos of South Korean cities as seen from space.

Civilian experts from South Korea and other countries said the images used for surveillance purposes were too crude and the launches could be covert tests of North Korean missile technology.

These assessments drew the ire of North Korea, where the powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un scathedly criticized unnamed South Korean experts.

Kim Yo Jong said there would be no reason to use an expensive high-resolution camera to test a shot, and the North Korean Space Agency used two old missiles as space carriers.

North Korea has carried out several test launches of missiles this year, some of which are ballistic in nature and capable of carrying nuclear warheads, to strike the mainland United States as well as South Korea and Japan, both Washington’s allies.

North Korea said it was forced to conduct the test in response to previous military exercises between the United States and South Korea.
