Minor League Baseball is officially on its way to northern Colorado.
The Pioneer Baseball League released its 2022 schedule on Thursday, which includes 10 teams. It will start in May and run till mid-September.
The Northern Colorado Owls, previously the Orem Owls, are part of the league and one of two expansion teams.
Northern Colorado will begin its season on May 25 in Great Falls, Montana. Its home opener is scheduled for June 2 against Rocky Mountain Vibes.
“We are very excited to begin the 2022 season after the historic year ends,” Pioneer League commissioner Jim McCurdy said in a statement. “By adding two new teams to two new ballparks, the league sets out to build on its promise to intelligently expand throughout the Mountain States region. I am really impressed that we were able to put together this program that was our Balances the individual needs of our clubs with the league’s new mandate to significantly reduce travel times for the benefit of players.
A new team in Flathead, Montana has also joined the league for its inaugural season.
Teams will play 96 games, halving the season. The first half will end on July 17, and the second half on September 10. The league is divided into two divisions.
