“Next week’s Laver Cup will be my last ATP event,” the Swiss announced on Twitter. Djokovic and Federer faced each other 50 times, with the Serb leaving the court as the winner 27 times, including four in five Grand Slam finals.
Most recently at Wimbledon in 2019 when Djokovic saved two match points and defeated Federer in a memorable five-set match. The two first faced each other in 2006 at the Masters in Monte Carlo.

Along with Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, the “Big 4” represented Team Europe against Team World. “I look forward to celebrating your achievements and seeing you in London, Roger,” the 21-time Grand Slam winner said on Instagram.
But even after 310 weeks of Federer’s impressive career at world number one, Djokovic is not worried about the Swiss.
Nadal also said goodbye to Federer
“I know wonderful things are in store for you, Mirka, your children and all your loved ones in this chapter,” wrote Djokovic and is sure fans of the 41-year-old from Basel will still have a lot to look forward to in the future. I’m on ahead.”
Finally, Djokovic wrote: “Our family wishes your family much happiness, health and prosperity in the future.” Rafael Nadal also said goodbye to Federer in an emotional post on Thursday and described the day as “sad for me personally and for the sport around the world”.
