The National Council of the Aam Aadmi Party has allowed more than one member of a family to contest elections on a party ticket on Thursday. This will be applicable only to those members who have just joined the party. Senior leader of AAP Manish Sisodia said that this change will only be applied to those who have just joined the party.
The council has also confirmed the leadership’s decision to contest elections in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. The party has also banned members from discussing issues related to the party and leadership outside the party forums.
Changes made in the constitution of the party
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that a change in the constitution of the party will help us expand. Based on the experience of the past 9 years, we realized that some sections of the party’s constitution are creating practical difficulties, especially in states where the party is trying to expand. For example, earlier booth level units were considered as primary units but now district level units are considered as primary units. Now the MP MLAs will be a part of the National Council and State Councils of the states from which they are elected.
He said that the members of the party will have complete freedom to discuss the issues related to the behavior of the party, leaders, dancers in the party forums. But they cannot discuss the approaches that can harm the party outside. Also, our party’s constitution says that only one person from a family can contest elections. Some modifications have been made in this section. However, this rule will be applicable to the existing members. Not on those who will join the party now.
Kejriwal will remain the national convenor
Asked if any decision has been taken on the continuation of the party supremo, Arvind Kejriwal as a national combination? Sisodia said that no such decision has been taken. There is a national convener.
Addressing the meeting of the National Council, Kejriwal said that the party needs to emerge as an alternative power to the established parties who have betrayed the country. On the contrary, he said that we have made our work the focal point of politics.
We are not for the part, but for the country: Kejriwal
He said that other parties ask for votes in the name of religion. He appeals to Hindus to vote for Hindus, Muslims to Muslims and Thakurs to vote for Thakur Party. They make people fight among themselves. We contest elections on the basis of work, education and schools.
He said that the ‘National Party’ talks about what went wrong in the country in the 12th and 13th centuries instead of how India should be in the 21st century. We are not for the party, we are for the country. The Aam Aadmi Party is just a vehicle to change the country.
