Bhopal: In Madhya Pradesh, another disease has hit between the corona epidemic and dengue, this new disease is scrub typhus. Children are at higher risk for this disease. The health department has also heard about the death of a child.
Recently, a child in Raisen district contracted a disease called scrub typhus, he was admitted to Netaji Subhash Chandra Medical College in Jabalpur, but his life could not be saved. The disease initially looks like viral fever but later it becomes severe.
According to medical experts, initially the disease looks like viral fever. The disease is spread by a bacterium called Rickettsiae. These bacteria are commonly found in fleas and these fleas reach humans through wild rats.
According to Dr. Ritu Gupta, a doctor at Jabbalpur, the symptoms of the disease begin to appear within 10 days of the larval mite bite. Initially, the cold is accompanied by high fever and pain in the muscles along the body. As the disease progresses, the area where the larva mite bites develops a red rash and a crust forms on it. When the condition worsens, the patient goes into a coma.
According to doctors, the disease causes damage to the heart, kidneys, respiratory system and digestive system, often leading to nervous system failure. The disease usually shows its effects between July and October, but it does not spread from person to person.
According to experts, the disease occurs in cold and mountainous areas, blood tests are needed to detect it. Sometimes the patient recovers within one to two weeks and the symptoms also disappear.
The disease does not spread from person to person, but to prevent dehydration, the body needs to be covered while working in the field. To protect children from this disease, mosquito nets should be used, as well as their bodies should be kept covered.
There is also a risk of dengue in the state. Meanwhile, scrub typhus injuries have increased the health department’s challenge.
