You will no longer need to take a driving test at the RTO to get a driving license. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification of the new rules. Under this, candidates who have successfully trained at a recognized driving center will not have to take the driving license test while getting the DL, they will be exempted from it. However you will need to complete the training at the center and pass an exam, which will be recorded electronically for monitoring.
The rules will apply from 1 July
The Ministry has informed the mandatory rules for recognized driving training centers. These rules will be effective July 1, 2021. Adequate training and information will be provided to the candidates admitted in these centers. Candidates who have successfully cleared the test at these centers will not be required to take the driving test for a driving license at the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

The ministry said in a statement that it would help drivers to obtain driving licenses after receiving driving training from such nationally recognized driving centers. According to the notification, the recognition approved by the recognized centers will be valid for five years and can be renewed. The duration of the Light Motor Driver course will be a maximum of 29 hours in four weeks.
The course will be divided into two sections, theory and practice. The course duration for medium and heavy motor vehicles will be 38 hours in six weeks. During this time, drivers will be taught important things about better behavior and discipline with other drivers on the road.
