There are differences between whether the necessary amount of two liters is sufficient to maintain regular hydration, and also whether tap water or bottled water is better. The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) gave their opinion on this matter.
Do we prefer diffused or sound water?
OCU conducts a survey to find out the pros and cons of drinking one form or another of water. The results show very similar percentages in both cases, with 46% of respondents buying bottled water to drink compared to 54% choosing tap water.
The main reasons when choosing bottled water are usually hardness, because tap water usually has higher levels of calcium, magnesium and salts, which also affects the taste. In fact, in areas of harder mineralization, such as the western and southern peninsulas, the widespread consumption of mineral water is higher than in those where the sound hardness of the water is lower.
The main advantages and disadvantages of each type of water
When comparing one type of water consumption or another, the OCU establishes the main points of the average annual cost that each one uses, the clarity in the mineral composition and the degree of sustainability.
As for the cost, an annual average of 150 coins is paid to drink bottled mineral water, taking into account that the average price of a liter of water in this form of money is 0.21. While for those who drink tap water, the cost is over one euro in the same period.
On the other hand, in almost all cases of diffused water, it is usually quite obscure as to the analytical composition and does not define the minerals that should appear, which causes it to vary a lot between different characteristics. OCU has repeatedly requested more complete and homogeneous information in this regard.
OCU recommendations on water
Taking all these facts into account, OCU undoubtedly opts for sound water as the best option for consumption. As it is much cheaper, of higher quality – passes all controls – and sustainable – the consumption of plastic is avoided as the main packaging material. From the platform, businesses and consumers seek to be more self-aware when making a choice.
Also, from OCU they introduce a series of recommendations for those who choose bottled water. The first thing to keep in mind is that water is food and must maintain hygienic conditions, avoiding sunlight, high temperatures, and leaving the container directly on the ground.
On the other hand, if we buy bottled water, once the bottle is opened, it is important to consume it within two days and not reuse the container, unless it is indicated as reusable. The mineral water in the plastic bottle is attacked by the type of bacteria and the composition of the plastic that ends up mixing with the water we drink.
