The early stages were a tough time for every celebrity in terms of style, and like many of today’s A-listers Olivia Wilde Couldn’t help but follow the decade’s worst trends. While it certainly isn’t the worst fashion we’ve seen since the ’00s, it’s definitely out there as the biggest fashion fails from that era.
Olivia Wilde Can’t Get Enough Of This Accessory
It’s no surprise that Olivia Wilde took part in this controversial trend as she began her career at the height of her popularity. Scarves, decorative and functional, were all the rage, and Wilde, who made her film debut in 2004 girl next door, that life was about. At the time she wasn’t the only actress who subscribed to the questionable genre. We saw retired actress Cameron Diaz in her subdued red carpet look wearing an oversized knit scarf.
fresh faced in 2006

In our first photo, Wilde wears a white linen button-down shirt, with a collar held high enough that it almost brushes her cheek. The shirt has been opened down the middle of Wilde’s chest, giving viewers a clear shot of the red-and-white gauzy scarf she’s wearing.
We really dig the way the red accents of the scarf complement her red-orange hand bag and her simple, long gold chain. This scarf was apparently Wilde’s favorite as we saw it reappeared a year later in another red carpet photo.
Christmas came early and disappointed

This look is not as strong as the previous look. First, the red from the scarf and the dress’s green combination is screaming “Christmas” to us, and this photo was taken in April, even too soon for Christmas in July. While her red shoes match her scarf, we feel like the two could have been swapped out and would have vastly improved the look.
Olivia, where are you under?

Finally, we got a photo of Wilde who is literally more scarf than woman. We think we spy a brown leather jacket under that scarf, but it’s hard to know for sure. We can’t even see what Wilde’s shirt looks like under that busy black and white scarf, so it’s almost impossible to actually rate this look. Wilde looks as beautiful as ever, if she has any consolation. We were so obsessed with the scarf that we almost forgot to comment on the shoes, which are somehow even uglier than Uggs, we’re sorry to report.
Obviously we’re relieved that the scarf trend was over at some point in the last decade, but with early trends starting to show a resurgence (looking at you, thin brows), we have reason to worry that we’ll Once again see people wearing scarves that can double as mumuu.
