Locals and visitors now have access to a safer, more user-friendly path than before, says Eastman Mayor Nathalie Lemaire.
“It is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful trails in Estrie, with unique visual views of Lac d’Argent and Mont Orford,” he says.
“It was already popular with pedestrians, especially the Abbey circuit, which includes it on its routes. I think it will be even more popular with pedestrians and cyclists thanks to our new safer developments and our shared lane limited to 30 km/h. »
The works, which lasted almost nine months, made it possible in particular to add a sidewalk to encourage active transportation and make access to this road that runs along the Plata Lake safer for pedestrians.
Among other improvements, traffic calming measures were implemented and a rest stop was installed at the Route 112 intersection.
The aqueduct infrastructure has been updated and fire hydrants have been added. The delays suffered with the railway company that owns the bridge mean that vehicle and pedestrian crossings under this infrastructure will be completed in the coming weeks.
On Friday we celebrated these achievements by officially opening the new features.
Since 2017
The entire project is estimated at $6.55 million, the largest ever managed by Eastman Township.
It was carried out thanks to the financial support of $429,000 from the Government of Quebec as part of the Municipal Water Infrastructure Fund Program (FIMEAU), and $7,000 from the financial assistance program of the Road Safety Fund (PAFFSR) for the construction of speed bumps $2,977,000 from the Local Road Infrastructure Recovery Program (RIRL) for the completion of the work and $275,000 from the Gas Tax Program and the Quebec contribution (TECQ).
“The effect on the quality of life of the citizens of Eastman will be significant. I thank Mayor Nathalie Lemaire for her valuable collaboration in the development of this important work for our beautiful region,” says Gilles Bélanger, MP for Orford.
The renovation of the Chemin du Lac-d’Argent has been underway since 2017, adds the mayor.
“So this is a major milestone finally achieved,” he said.
“We thank citizens for their patience and collaboration during the works and now we invite them to come and benefit from this infrastructure worthy of 2023.”
