GEORGETOWN – A 23-year-old Salisbury, Maryland, woman died from crash injuries Thursday night, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.
There have been at least 56 roadway-related fatalities in the state this year.
In the latest fatal incident, authorities said, the woman was driving a Honda Civic that failed to stop at a stop sign on East Trap Pond Road and was struck by a Honda Accord at approximately 5:52 pm
The Civic was forced off the roadway and rolled once before coming to rest in a residential yard. The Accord was also forced off the roadway and came to rest in a residential yard. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.
The driver of the Accord, a 60-year-old Seaford female, was transported to an area hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
The Civic driver was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries, where she was later pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
The intersection of Hardscrabble Road and East Trap Pond Road was closed for approximately three hours while the investigation was being conducted.
