During the first two months of 2023, 8,834 hybrid and electric vehicles were sold in Mexico, of which only 3.8 percent were sold in Puebla, i.e. 340; Despite few sales, the unit ranked sixth most in the country.
The former, according to Inegi data at its administrative registry of the light vehicle automotive industry, reported that Mexico City accounted for 23.8 percent of total sales, ie 2,106 units.
For its part, the State of Mexico was the second with the most sales with 1,142, 12.9 percent; while Nuevo León—the state where the Tesla plant will arrive—reported 916, up 10.3 percent.
In fourth place with the most vehicles sold was Jalisco with 825; while Guanajuato had 341, one more than the Puebla unit.
For their part, the three states with the fewest sales in the country were Durango, with 36 units, Zacatecas, with 33, as well as Nayarit, with 22.
Of the 340 cars sold in Puebla, 298 were hybrids and plug-in hybrids, while only 42 were electric.
In this regard, it is necessary to highlight that at the moment, the commercialization of the electric units has difficulties as to the cost, since they oscillate between 500 thousand and 939 thousand pesos; Apart from the fact that the entity has 107 charging stations for these and though it is an advance, more are needed.
The first 87 are located in the state’s metropolitan area, while the other 20 are part of two routes in the state: the first was developed in the northern Sierra, and includes the municipalities of Xicotepec, Huachinango, Zacatlán and Chignahuapan, where electric vehicles currently exist. There are ten chargers for it.
For its part, the second electrified route corresponds to the Mixteca region, which includes the municipalities of Acatlán, Tepexi and Izúcar de Matamoros, along with another ten chargers.
It is noteworthy that one of the projects for Puebla, initiated under the management of former governor Miguel Barbosa Huerta, is to transform Puebla into one of the producing entities of electric cars, which led to the announcement in August 2022 that Volkswagen production Will start of the said vehicles in the unit.
Similarly, in the wake of Tesla’s arrival, the Puebla government revealed that from April 2022, it signed a confidentiality agreement with Tesla and initiated high-level talks through the Ministry of Economy, as the entity provides it with inputs. There is room for more suppliers to grow, so the arrival of the said company will also benefit.
