Ontario is reporting 1,423 people with COVID in hospital as of Monday, with 211 in intensive care.

This is an increase of 13 for hospitalizations from the previous day and 24 out of seven for ICUs, although officials noted that not all hospitals reported updated figures due over the weekend.

Last Monday, there were 1,455 hospitalizations with 219 in the ICU. This is a decrease of 2.1 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively, from this week’s figures.

According to the latest figures on hospitalizations since the weekend, 58 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19. For those in the ICU, 35 percent were admitted for other reasons.

Meanwhile, Ontario also reported 1,275 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Monday, although this is an underestimate of true widespread transmission of the virus because of PCR testability. The provincial case total now stands at 1,261,655.

The death toll in the province remained at 12,842 from the previous day as no new deaths related to the virus were reported.

A total of 1,219,640 have been cured, which is about 97 percent of the known cases. There was an increase of 2,292 in the resolved cases since the previous day.

As for vaccination, 91.1 percent of the population 12 years of age and older are fully vaccinated. The coverage of the first dose is 93 percent. Third dose vaccination is 56.5 percent – ​​more than 7.3 million Ontarians have received a booster shot.

For younger children aged five to 11 years, first dose coverage is 56.3 percent, with 35.3 percent fully immunized.

The province gave 6,015 doses in the last day.

The government said 11,849 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. At present, 4,374 tests are being investigated.

The test positivity rate stands at 14 per cent from the 15.3 per cent reported a week ago.
